From My Care Budget

If you have previously been supported with a respite holiday and now have been refused, then consider following the process below that worked for one of our core contributors.

1. Have you thought about all the support you will need? Use the first template below to help you with this so you can demonstrate to your Integrated Care Board (ICB) you have considered all the issues and costs

2. Use the second template below to help you write a letter to your ICB. Modify the paragraphs in red

3. Post or email your letter as per your ICB’s complaint procedure

4. Send a copy of your complaint letter to your local MP, with an explanatory letter. See the third template below. Modify the paragraphs in red

5. Await the outcome of your complaint

6. CC your MP into all communications you receive about your complaint

7. If your complaint is not upheld, ask your MP to help support you to escalate your complaint to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman https://www.ombudsman.org.uk

The idea is that you download the documents that look suitable for you, then change them so they fit what you need. You can always email us at [email protected] with your version and we'll add it.

We do not claim to be legal experts, we are people that run Personal Health Budgets (PHBs) for ourselves or for a close family members. As such this wiki is to be viewed as a platform where we (and you!) can make documents publicly available for others to view and make use of them. More on our Disclaimers page here.
